How to Remove Ads in Telegram Public Channels: Sponsored Message Architecture, Premium Shielding & Clutter-Free Feeds

play_circle Video tip • Premium

Telegram shows sponsored messages in some large public channels. Premium removes them. That is the whole feature, and it is more interesting for what it tells you about where ads exist at all.

They are not in your private chats, not in your groups, and not chosen from anything you have said. Understanding that is worth more than the removal.

What you will be able to do

  • check_circle Recognise a sponsored message for what it is.
  • check_circle Say where ads appear and where they do not.
  • check_circle Understand what they are targeted on.
  • check_circle Decide whether removing them is worth a subscription.

A sponsored message sits at the end of a channel's posts and is labelled as sponsored.

campaign Where they are and are not

Sponsored messages appear only in large public channels, at the bottom of the feed, marked as sponsored. They are short, text-only posts. They do not appear in one-to-one chats, in groups, in private channels, or anywhere you are having a conversation.

They are also not built from your messages. Telegram's stated model targets them on the channel being read rather than on anything about you — an advertisement placed against a topic, the way a magazine places one against a page.

Which means removing them is a comfort purchase rather than a privacy one. If they bother you, Premium removes them; if you mostly have private chats and small groups, you may never have seen one.

An unlabelled advertisement is a post Most of what looks like advertising in Telegram is not this feature at all — it is a channel owner posting a promotion, or a member posting spam. Premium removes sponsored messages only; it cannot remove what a channel chooses to publish.

Four things people mistake for ads

Only the first is what this feature removes.

campaign The labelled one

check_circle Short, text-only, at the end of a large public channel, and explicitly marked. That is the only thing Premium removes.
check_circle It is how Telegram funds the service without charging for the basics or mining private chats.
check_circle If you never open large public channels, you have probably never encountered one.

Premium removes one labelled thing in large public channels. Everything else you dislike has a different fix.

settings Dealing with each

  1. Look for the sponsored label It tells you which kind of thing you are looking at.
  2. Leave or mute a channel that promotes constantly That is its own content, not an ad slot.
  3. Report spam in groups So the admins can act on the account.
  4. Turn on auto-archiving for unknown senders If strangers are reaching your chats.
  5. Subscribe only if sponsored messages genuinely bother you It removes those and nothing else.

This page is the reader's view. The curriculum step is the channel owner's: how sponsored messages are bought and placed, what a channel earns from carrying them, and how that revenue model works for a publisher.
