You do not have to start in Telegram. Share from a file manager, a camera app, a browser or a document editor, pick Telegram, pick a chat, and it sends — with a progress bar you can leave running while you do something else.

For anything large that is the better route, because you are already where the file is.

What you will be able to do

  • check_circle Send something to Telegram from any other app.
  • check_circle Start a long upload and stop watching it.
  • check_circle Choose the right destination when sharing.
  • check_circle Handle an upload that fails partway.

The upload continues with its own progress, and leaving the chat does not cancel it.

share Start where the file is

Going into Telegram first and then hunting for a file through the attachment menu is the long way round for anything that is not a photograph. The file manager, the editor or the browser already has it selected; sharing from there skips the search entirely.

It also handles things the attachment menu handles awkwardly: a document from a cloud drive, a page saved from a browser, an export from another application. Whatever the other app can share, Telegram can receive.

Large uploads run in the background and resume rather than restarting after an interruption, so starting one is not a commitment to watching it. Leave the chat, leave the app, come back when it is done.

Share to Saved Messages first If you are not sure where it should go, or several people need it, send it to yourself. Forwarding afterwards is instant because the file is already uploaded, and the copy stays in your cloud.

Four things to get right when sharing in

Two are habits, one is a recovery, and one is a caution.

forum Choosing where it lands

check_circle The share sheet lists recent chats first, which is usually right and occasionally exactly wrong.
check_circle Search for the chat by name rather than tapping the first familiar avatar.
check_circle Add a caption while you are there. A file arriving with no explanation is a small puzzle for the recipient.

Share from where the file is, send it to yourself when unsure, and read the chat name before confirming.

settings Sharing in

  1. Select the file in the other app File manager, browser, editor, camera.

  5. Confirm, then leave it The upload continues without you.
  6. Send it to Saved Messages when unsure And forward from there.

This page brings something in from outside. The curriculum step is what happens when it goes out again: the share and forward controls, what travels with a message, and the account-wide settings that govern attribution.
