How to Enable Telegram Aggressive Anti-Spam in Groups: Native ML Heuristics, False-Positive Feedback Loops & Botless Moderation

play_circle Video tip • Moderation

Large groups can turn on an aggressive anti-spam filter. Telegram then removes messages it judges to be spam automatically, before an admin has seen them.

It works, it is free, and like every automatic filter it is occasionally wrong — so the part worth setting up is what happens when it is.

What you will be able to do

  • check_circle Turn on automatic spam filtering in a group you run.
  • check_circle Find what it removed and restore a mistake.
  • check_circle Combine it with the settings that do more.
  • check_circle Tell a member why their message vanished.

AUTOPLAY

One switch in the group's settings, available once a group is large enough to need it.

shield Automatic, and therefore imperfect

The filter is Telegram's own, applied on its side, and it removes the obvious cases without anybody being awake. For a group that collects spam overnight, that alone is worth switching on.

What it cannot do is understand your group. A community where people legitimately post links, or discuss the very products spammers advertise, will see honest messages disappear — and the member who wrote one has no idea why.

That is why the recent actions log matters here. Removals are recorded there, they can be reviewed, and a message taken by mistake can be reported back so the filter learns. A filter nobody audits becomes a filter nobody can defend.

The join gate does more than any filter Approval on the invite link means you decide who gets in, which prevents the messages rather than deleting them. Anti-spam is the second line; the first is the door.

Four layers, in the order to apply them

The filter is third, not first.

how_to_reg Who gets in

check_circle Join approval on the invite link. You see each profile before anybody is inside, and most automated accounts never get past it.
check_circle Revoke and replace a link that has leaked rather than fighting what comes through it.
check_circle This is the cheapest and most effective layer, and the one most groups skip.

Gate the door, restrict links, then filter. And read the log, because an unaudited filter is one you cannot explain.

settings Setting it up

  1. Turn on join approval first On the invite link.
  2. Restrict links for ordinary members In the permissions.
  3. Enable anti-spam in the group settings Where the group is large enough for the option.
  4. Mention it in the pinned rules So a vanished message is explicable.
  5. Read the recent actions log weekly For the first month at least.
  6. Report wrongly removed messages Or turn it off if it keeps happening.

This page is the switch and the order to apply it in. The curriculum step is living with it: how the filtering behaves at scale, triaging false positives, and what to do when a community's own subject matter looks like spam to a machine.
