The emoji panel has a search box. Type a word and it returns the emoji that mean it, which is faster than scrolling through nine categories looking for the one you had in mind.
It is a thirty-second habit that replaces a thing everybody does badly several times a day.
What you will be able to do
- check_circle Find an emoji by typing what it means.
- check_circle Insert one without leaving the keyboard on a computer.
- check_circle Set a skin tone once rather than choosing every time.
- check_circle Know why a search sometimes finds nothing.
Typing a word narrows the panel immediately; there is no separate search screen.
search Search the meaning, not the picture
Each emoji carries a set of keywords describing what it depicts and what it is used for. Searching matches those, so a word like celebration or sorry returns the ones people use for that rather than only the one whose official name contains it.
On a computer the fastest route avoids the panel entirely: type a colon and a word in the message box and the matching emoji are offered inline, so your hands never leave the keyboard.
Skin tone is a setting rather than a per-use choice on most clients — hold one, pick a tone, and it is remembered for every emoji that has variants. Doing that once saves the long press every time afterwards.

This page is one part of composing a message. The curriculum step is the rest: bold and code and quotes, spoilers, links written over text, and the typed syntax that makes all of it fast on a keyboard.
