How to Configure Telegram Power Saving Mode: Granular Battery Toggles, Auto-Throttle Thresholds & Android Hardware Optimization

play_circle Video tip • Battery

Power saving in Telegram is not one switch but a list, and it is worth knowing which entries matter. Two of them account for nearly all of the battery a messenger uses; the rest are rounding errors.

Knowing which is which means you can fix the drain without making the app dull for no reason.

What you will be able to do

  • check_circle Identify what actually uses the battery.
  • check_circle Set it to switch itself down at a level you choose.
  • check_circle Tell Telegram's settings from the phone's own.
  • check_circle Keep notifications working while saving power.

AUTOPLAY

A list of individual switches plus an automatic trigger at a battery level you set.

battery_alert Two things, then everything else

The expensive parts are autoplay — video, GIFs and animated stickers playing continuously as you scroll — and automatic downloading, which uses the radio, and the radio is the most power-hungry part of a phone. Turning those two down does nearly all the work.

The interface animations are cheap by comparison. Turning them off helps an old device feel faster, which is a real benefit, but it is not where the battery went.

The automatic trigger is the setting to use rather than the switches themselves: choose a battery level and the app becomes frugal below it without you noticing or deciding.

Some of this is the phone, not Telegram Background restrictions, battery optimisation and notification delivery are system settings. If messages arrive late after you enable the phone's own saver, that is the system holding the app back rather than anything in these switches.

Stop after the second unless the phone is genuinely old.

check_circle Turning autoplay off costs one tap when you want to watch something and saves the rest.
check_circle This is the single biggest change available, and it also makes an old phone scroll properly.

Autoplay and downloads are the battery. Animations are the feel. Set the automatic threshold and forget both.

settings Setting it up

  1. Open the power saving settings The list and the trigger are together.
  2. Set the automatic threshold Around a fifth of battery.
  3. Turn off autoplay for stickers, GIFs and video The biggest change.
  4. Restrict automatic downloads on mobile data Photographs on, video off.
  5. Turn off animations on an older phone For smoothness rather than battery.
  6. Check the phone's own restrictions If notifications are arriving late.

This page is what the app spends while running. The curriculum step is what it keeps while idle: cache limits, automatic cleanup, and the other half of making a cloud messenger sit lightly on a device.
