How to Use Telegram Auto-Send Invite Links: Privacy-Restricted Member Handling, Instant DM Links & Frictionless Onboarding
Adding somebody to a group sometimes fails, because their privacy settings do not allow strangers or acquaintances to put them into chats. Telegram then offers to send them an invite link instead, which they can accept or ignore.
That refusal is a setting working correctly, and the invitation is the polite version of what you were trying to do.

group_add Being added is something people can decline
Telegram has a privacy setting for who may add you to groups and channels: everybody, contacts, or nobody, with exceptions. It exists because being silently placed into a group is an unpleasant experience, and because that mechanism is used to fill groups with people who never asked.
So a failed add is not a bug and is rarely personal. It means that person has decided not to be enrolled by surprise, which is a reasonable decision that a great many people have made.
The invitation is the correct response. They see what the group is, decide, and join if they want to — which produces a better group than one full of members who were put there.
Four ways to fill a group
Only the first is really adding people, and it is the worst of the four.

A failed add is a working setting. Invite instead — and ask before you add anybody at all.
settings Doing it well
- Ask before adding anybody One message.
- Add the ones who agreed Small groups only.
- Accept the offer to invite the rest Rather than trying again.
- Write a sentence with the link Saying what the group is.
- Use a named, expiring link for a cohort So you can see who joined.
- Set your own add permission to contacts In privacy and security.
This page is the invitation you send when adding fails. The curriculum step is the link itself: expiry and usage caps, naming links so the join counts mean something, approval gates, and revoking one without disturbing existing members.
