How to Use Telegram Shareable Folders: Multi-Chat Invite Links, Granular Chat Bundling & Dynamic Member Updates

play_circle Video tip • Folders

A folder can be shared as a link. Somebody opens it, sees the chats inside, chooses which to join, and ends up with the same folder in their own app.

It solves the thing that makes joining an organisation on Telegram tedious: being sent six separate links and having to keep track of which you already used.

What you will be able to do

  • check_circle Share a set of chats as one link.
  • check_circle Add a chat to the set later and have it reach everybody.
  • check_circle Onboard somebody in one step instead of six.
  • check_circle Understand what the recipient controls.

The recipient sees the list before joining and ticks what they want.

The link carries the chats you chose to include — only the ones where you have the right to invite — and the folder's name. Opening it shows the list, and the person ticks what they want to join. Nothing is forced.

The part that makes it more than a convenience is that the link stays connected. Add a chat to the shared folder later and everybody who joined through the link is offered the new one, which is how you announce a new channel to an organisation without sending anything to anybody.

They can also stop following the folder without leaving the chats, or leave the chats and keep the folder. Those are separate decisions on their side, which is what makes it comfortable to accept.

group_add
It is an onboarding tool A new colleague, a new member of a community, a new volunteer: one link instead of a message containing six. That is where this pays for the two minutes it takes to set up.
Which of my chats can go into a shared folder?

The picker offers the ones you actually have the right to invite people to, so private conversations and other people's channels are not includable at all. Within that, include the essential three or four rather than everything you own — a list of twelve is a decision nobody wants to make on arrival, and most of them will simply accept all of it without looking.

What should I call it?

After the organisation or the role, because that name is what appears in the other person's app and becomes the label on a tab they will see every day. A folder called "Work" tells them nothing once they have three of them; one called by the name of the company or the project tells them exactly which world they have just joined.

What happens if I add a chat to the folder later?

It is offered to everybody who joined through the link, and each of them accepts or ignores it. This is the feature worth having: an organisation can add a new channel once instead of messaging everybody about it, and somebody who joined last year finds out about it the same way somebody joining today does. It is not a broadcast mechanism, though — use it for structure rather than for announcements.

What does the person on the other end actually get?

A list to choose from, and then a folder in their app containing whatever they ticked. Nothing is joined without a tick. Afterwards they can leave individual chats and keep the folder, or keep the chats and delete the folder, because the two are independent. Folder limits apply on their side, so somebody already at their limit will be told rather than silently failing.

Can I withdraw the link afterwards?

Yes, and it is revoked like any other invite link, which stops new people joining through it. It does not remove anybody who already joined, and they keep every chat they are in — removing somebody is a per-chat action exactly as it would have been without the folder. The link controls arrivals and nothing else.

Is it a good way to onboard somebody new?

It is the best one available. A new colleague gets the right four chats in one tap, grouped under a name that tells them what they are, instead of five separate invite links arriving over two days and a sixth that somebody forgot to send. The cost of getting it wrong is low too, since they choose what to accept.

One link, three or four chats, and a name they will recognise After that, add to the folder rather than announcing new chats. The people who joined months ago are offered them automatically, which is the only part of this feature that does something no amount of messaging could.
