Dual camera records both sides at once: what you are looking at, and your face looking at it. The two are captured together, and the small window can be moved and resized as you go.

It exists for one thing — a reaction to something happening — and that is also the only thing it is good at.

What you will be able to do

  • check_circle Record with both cameras at the same time.
  • check_circle Place the small window where it does not hide anything.
  • check_circle Know when it is the wrong mode.
  • check_circle Handle what it costs the phone.

The inset window is movable and resizable while recording, not fixed to a corner.

The value is that the reaction and the thing reacted to are the same recording. Filming a scene and then filming yourself talking about it afterwards is two clips and a reconstruction; this is one moment with both halves of it.

It follows that the mode is wrong whenever there is no reaction to capture. A demonstration, a walkthrough, a view — all of those are better with one camera and your voice, because the inset window is then a small distraction covering part of the frame.

The window can be repositioned mid-recording, which matters more than it sounds: what it covers changes as the scene does, and a face parked over the interesting part is the commonest failure.

Two cameras cost twice Running both sensors is heavy on battery and heat, and on a warm day a long recording can be cut short by the phone rather than by you. Use it for short takes, which is what it is for anyway.

Four recordings

Two want both cameras and two do not.

celebration Something happening in front of you

check_circle A result, a surprise, a moment at an event. Both halves in one take is exactly what this is for.
check_circle Short. Ten or twenty seconds carries a reaction; a minute of it is a different and much less interesting video.
check_circle Start recording before the thing happens. The moment you were reacting to is the part people want.

Both cameras for a reaction. One camera for everything you want people to look at.

settings Recording one

  1. Open the camera and switch to dual mode Where the client offers it.
  2. Check what the front camera sees Including behind you.
  3. Start before the moment Not after it.
  4. Place the inset in an empty corner And move it if the scene changes.
  5. Keep it short Twenty seconds is usually the whole of it.
  6. Use one camera for anything instructional The inset only gets in the way there.

This page is one capture mode. The curriculum step is framing in general: choosing a shape for where the video will be seen, trimming before sending, and the decisions that make a clip watchable rather than merely recorded.
