Can I make calls via Telegram?
Yes, and all of it is end-to-end encrypted. Voice calls, video calls and group calls with up to 200 participants are covered, and the encryption on a group call can be verified by the participants themselves at any point.
The three kinds of call
| Type | Who it is for | How to start it |
|---|---|---|
| Voice or video call | One person | Open their profile and tap Call |
| Group call | Up to 200 people | Turn an existing call into one, or start it from a group |
| Voice chat | A group, ongoing | Start it in a group; members drop in and out freely |
Inside a call
Participants can send comments and reactions without interrupting the audio, which matters in a group call where speaking up costs everyone else their turn. A voice chat behaves differently from a call: it stays open in the group, and members join whenever they want rather than being summoned.
Verifying the encryption
Each call generates a set of emoji shown to both sides. If everyone sees the same four symbols, the connection is direct and nothing is sitting in the middle. It takes two seconds and is the only way to confirm rather than assume.
