How to Search by Hashtag in Telegram: In-Chat Filters, Global Public Channels & Topic Discovery
A hashtag in Telegram is a link. Tapping one searches for it, and the results can be narrowed to the chat you were in or opened out across public channels.
There is no hashtag feed and nothing is promoted. It is a search term somebody wrote down in advance.

tag A search term written in advance
On most platforms a hashtag is a claim on an audience: you attach one and hope the feed carries you to strangers. Here there is no feed to be carried by, so the tag does nothing for reach at all.
What it does is make something findable later. A word you agreed on becomes a label, and six months on somebody can tap it and get every message that carried it, in order, without knowing what to search for. In a group with a long history that is worth a great deal.
The scope control is what makes it practical. The same tag can be searched inside the chat you are in — which is the useful one, because your group's tag means your group's thing — or across public channels, where the same word probably belongs to somebody else entirely.
That distinction is worth holding onto. A tag is only unambiguous inside the place that agreed on it; opened out across all public channels it becomes a common word with a symbol in front, and the results reflect that.

A hashtag buys retrieval, not reach. Agree a few, write them down, and keep the search scoped.
