As it arrives, a gift is a decoration on your profile that somebody paid for. You can leave it there or convert it into Stars, which returns less than it cost — the difference being roughly the price of the gesture.
Upgraded, it becomes a numbered item from a limited run, with a look assembled from parts you did not pick. It can now be passed to another person or put up for sale outside the app, and that is the whole substance of the change: before, it belonged to your profile; afterwards, it belongs to you in a way that can move.
Worth saying plainly: the upgrade costs Stars, it cannot be undone, and it usually removes the option to convert the original into Stars. You are exchanging a small certain amount for an uncertain one, and what makes it uncertain is that the price of these things is whatever somebody else is willing to pay on the day you want to sell.
What does the upgrade actually give me?
A one-of-a-kind appearance drawn from a pool of patterns and backgrounds, a serial number within a fixed total, and the ability to transfer or sell it. The first two are cosmetic. The third is the reason the feature exists, and the only one that changes what you are holding.
Can I choose how it looks?
No. The combination is assigned when you upgrade and the reveal is the moment you find out, which is deliberate — the scarcity of particular combinations is what the whole market is built on. If you upgrade hoping for something specific, you are buying a lottery ticket and should price it accordingly.
Should I upgrade or just convert it to Stars?
Convert if you want the value and you want it now: it is small, certain and immediate. Upgrade if you intend to keep the thing, or if you genuinely enjoy the collecting. Upgrading purely as an investment is the version to be careful about — you are paying a known amount for an item whose resale price depends on continued interest from strangers.
What is the serial number worth?
Whatever the market decides, which in practice means low numbers and rare combinations trade for more and everything else trades for very little. A number is not a valuation. Most items in most limited runs are worth roughly what the cheapest one sold for last week, and that figure moves in both directions.
Can I give it to someone?
Yes — that is one of the real gains. An upgraded gift can be transferred to another person the way you would pass on anything you own, which also means it can be sold, swapped, or handed over under pressure. Anything transferable is something somebody can talk you out of.
Somebody is offering to buy mine in a chat. Is that normal?
Unsolicited offers are where nearly all the losses in this area happen. The pattern is always the same: a good price, a reason to move quickly, and a step that takes you off Telegram — a site to connect a wallet to, a code to enter, a small fee to pay first. Anything that asks you to authorise something before you receive anything is the fraud, whatever the item is.

The healthy version of this is the one where the gift already meant something. A present from a person you care about, or a prize you actually won, is worth making permanent and worth the fee regardless of what it trades for — because you were never going to sell it.
The unhealthy version is buying gifts in order to upgrade them, hoping the reveal is generous. That is gambling with extra steps, the odds are set by whoever decided the pool, and the fact that it happens inside a messenger rather than in a casino does not change the arithmetic.
Between the two sits the ordinary collector, which is fine as long as the money is money you were spending on a hobby. The test is simple and worth applying honestly: if the thing turned out to be worth nothing tomorrow, would you still be glad you had it?
