Beyond the supplied backgrounds there is a colour editor. You choose the colours yourself, optionally lay a pattern over them, and the result is a wallpaper that exists nowhere else.
It can also be handed to somebody. A wallpaper you made is a link, and in a private chat you can suggest it to the other person — which is the part almost nobody knows exists.

The editor takes up to four colours and blends them. Two is calm, three is interesting, four is usually one too many — the extra colour has to go somewhere, and where it goes is behind somebody's message.
The pattern is a separate layer with its own colour and its own strength. At full strength it competes with text; at low strength it adds texture you notice only when you look for it, which is the right amount for something you will stare at for years.
The preview shows real message bubbles over the result. Use it rather than judging the colours on their own, and scroll it, because a background looks different behind a dense conversation than behind two sample messages.

- Repeat for the other theme Light and dark are stored separately.
