Your name can carry a colour. It follows you into every group, tints the links you send and the bar beside quotes of your messages, and a repeating emoji pattern can sit behind them.
Setting it is a Premium feature. Seeing it is not — everybody sees your colour, whether or not they pay for anything.
What you will be able to do
- check_circle Choose a colour that follows your name everywhere.
- check_circle Understand what else it tints.
- check_circle Use the pattern without making messages unreadable.
- check_circle Pick one for a reason rather than a mood.
The colour applies to the name, to links in your messages, and to the accent bar on replies.
palette A badge, not decoration
In a group of four hundred people, names are a wall of grey text. A colour makes yours findable at a glance, which is the whole practical value: somebody scrolling back to find what you said will find it faster.
That means the useful property is consistency, not taste. A colour you keep becomes shorthand for you; a colour you change monthly is noise nobody learns. Teams get more out of this than individuals do, because a shared colour makes the staff visible in a busy community without any badge or title.
It reaches further than the name itself. Links in your messages take the accent, and when somebody replies quoting you the bar beside the quote takes it too. Your contributions stay recognisable even when your name is not on screen.
Four ways to choose
Only one of them is about liking the colour.

warning Where it stops helping
A colour works as a badge people learn. Consistency does the work, not the shade.
settings Setting one
- Open the name colour setting In appearance settings on your profile.
- Look at the groups you are actually in Before choosing, to avoid a colour three people already use.
- Check it in light and dark Half your readers are on the other one.
- Add a pattern only if it is simple It sits behind other people's reading.
- Keep it Recognition is the entire benefit and it takes time.
- Agree one across a team If people need to find your staff quickly.
This page colours your name. The curriculum step is the rest of how you appear: a moving avatar, the frame people see first, keeping older pictures visible, and what a profile communicates before anybody reads a word.
