How to Announce Telegram Messages with Siri: Hands-Free Voice Readout & Dictation Guide
With headphones on and the phone in your pocket, iOS can read a Telegram message out loud and let you answer by speaking — no screen, no unlock, no "Hey Siri" first.
This is an iOS feature that Telegram opts into rather than a Telegram feature, which matters: the switches live in iOS Settings, not in the app. The clip below shows it working; the part worth deciding is which chats should be allowed to interrupt you.
What you will be able to do
- check_circle Have the sender's name and message spoken through your headphones while the phone stays locked.
- check_circle Reply by talking, straight after the readout, without a wake word.
- check_circle Choose a scope narrow enough that this stays useful instead of becoming noise.
- check_circle Know what it will not read, so a private chat does not end up spoken aloud.
The reply window opens on its own after the readout — that is the part people miss and start over with a wake word.
hearing What is actually doing the talking
iOS has a system feature called Announce Notifications. When your phone is locked and connected to headphones it recognises, it can speak an incoming notification instead of only chiming. Apps do not implement this themselves; they declare their notifications eligible and iOS does the rest.
That is why the controls are in iOS Settings rather than in Telegram, and why the behaviour is identical to any other messaging app you enable it for. Telegram's part is making sure its notification payload carries the sender and the text, so there is something to read.
How much should be read out
iOS offers three scopes for each app. This is the whole decision — pick wrong and you will turn the feature off within a day.

Start with direct messages only. Widen it later if you find yourself missing things, not before.

- Open iOS Settings, then Notifications This is the system Settings app, not Telegram's. Nothing in this sequence happens inside Telegram.
- Tap Announce Notifications Turn the master switch on, and make sure Headphones is ticked under "Announce When Connected To". Without that, nothing is spoken.
- Find Telegram in the app list Scroll past the system apps. Tap Telegram and turn its own Announce Notifications switch on — the master switch alone does not enable any app.
- Pick the scope Direct Messages, Time Sensitive, or All Notifications. See the panel above if you are unsure; Direct Messages is the one that survives daily use.
phone_android On Android
There is no direct equivalent that Telegram controls. Reading notifications aloud on Android is handled by the system — Google Assistant can announce and read messages when it is connected to headphones or a car, and the accessibility settings offer spoken feedback. Both work across apps rather than being configured per app the way iOS does it.
Telegram's own voice feature on Android is the other direction: turning received voice messages into text, which is a Premium transcription feature and unrelated to this one.
