Telegram Cross-Platform Chat Migration Architecture: Moving Histories from WhatsApp, Line & KakaoTalk
Telegram can take a conversation out of WhatsApp, Line or KakaoTalk and put it into a Telegram chat, with the original dates intact. You do it from the other app's own export function, and it takes about a minute.
The interesting question is not how. It is which conversations are worth moving, because importing everything produces an archive nobody ever opens.

Telegram cannot reach into WhatsApp and read anything. The move works because those apps have an export feature of their own, and because Telegram registers itself as somewhere an export can be sent. You open the chat in the old app, ask it to export, and choose Telegram from the list of destinations that appears.
Telegram then asks which chat to put the messages into, and writes them in with their original dates. A conversation from three years ago lands under a three-year-old date divider rather than at the bottom of today.
Imported messages are marked as imported. That label is deliberate: without it, anybody could manufacture a history and present it as real. It is a small honesty tax on a feature that would otherwise be a forgery tool.

The test is simple: would you search this conversation again? If yes, import it. If no, keep the file.

- Open the conversation in the old app WhatsApp, Line and KakaoTalk each have their own export command in the chat's menu.
- Choose whether to include media The difference is a text file against a large archive.
- Pick Telegram in the share sheet It appears as a destination alongside mail and cloud drives.
- Choose the Telegram chat to import into The matching one-to-one chat or group, not a new one.
- Wait for the upload Media imports move at the speed of your connection.
- Check the dates Messages should sit under their original dividers, marked as imported.
