How to Auto-Archive & Mute Non-Contact Chats in Telegram: Silent Quarantine, Spam Shielding & Zero-Notification Inboxes
New chats from people who are not in your contacts can be sent straight to the archive, muted, without ever reaching your main list. You still receive them; they simply do not interrupt.
For anybody whose username is public, or who has ever been found by a stranger, this is the setting that makes the account calm again.
What you will be able to do

archive Filtered, not blocked
This is deliberately softer than the alternatives. Restricting who may message you turns people away; blocking removes them. Auto-archiving lets everything arrive and simply changes where it lands, which means a genuine message from a stranger is still there when you look for it.
That distinction matters if you are findable on purpose — a seller, a support account, anybody who publishes a handle. You want to be reachable. You do not want the reaching to be an interruption.
Moving a chat out of the archive is one gesture, and once you add somebody to your contacts they behave normally afterwards. The archive is a waiting room rather than a bin.

Archive, do not refuse. Stay reachable and stop being interrupted are not the same setting.

- Open privacy and security The archiving option sits with the new-chat settings.
- Turn on archiving for non-contacts Existing chats are not moved.
- Look in the archive weekly It is a waiting room, not a bin.
- Add the real people to your contacts They then behave normally.
- Block and report the rest Rather than only deleting.
- Consider restricting messages only if you are not meant to be findable It is the heavier option.
