How to Set Animated Looping Profile Pictures in Telegram: High-Efficiency Video Avatars & Cross-Chat Playback
A profile picture can move. A short video loops wherever your avatar appears — in a chat list, beside every message in a group, in the member list of a community with a thousand people in it.
That reach is the thing to think about. It is your picture, and it is playing on other people's screens.
What you will be able to do
- check_circle Set a looping video as your profile picture.
- check_circle Choose the frame it shows when it is not moving.
- check_circle Judge whether it works at the size it is actually seen.
- check_circle Stop other people's from animating.
Choosing the still frame is part of setting it, and it is the frame most people will actually see.
face_retouching_natural Mostly it is a still picture
The animation plays in some places and not others, and the places where it does not are the common ones: a small avatar in a crowded list, a phone saving battery, somebody with animations turned off. So the frame you choose as the still is the version of your picture that most people see most of the time.
Pick it deliberately. A video that is charming in motion frequently has no single good frame in it, and the result is an avatar that looks like a mistake nine times out of ten.
Judge it at the real size as well. An avatar is a small circle. Anything with detail, text or a wide shot in it becomes an indistinct smudge, moving or not.
Four things to get right
Three are about your picture and one is about everybody else's.

animation On the receiving end
The still frame is the picture. If it does not work as a photograph, the animation will not save it.
settings Setting one
- Open your profile and change the photo Choosing a video rather than an image.
- Keep it short and simple A few seconds, one subject, slow movement.
- Scrub to the still frame yourself Do not accept the default one.
- Look at it in your chat list At the size other people see.
- Replace it if no frame works alone Rather than hoping.
- Turn animations off on your own side If other people's are tiring.
This page is what your picture does. The curriculum step is who sees it: limiting your photo to contacts, showing a different one to everybody else, and keeping a public identity separate from the one your friends see.
