The short answer
- 1The current Telegram Desktop runs on Windows 7 and later (64- and 32-bit), macOS 10.13+ and 64-bit Linux.
- 2The last versions for older systems are linked only from the official GitHub repository.
- 3Old versions get no security fixes, so use one only for a while.

First, check whether your PC runs the current version
Most people who go looking for an old version can actually run the current one. According to the official Telegram Desktop repository on GitHub, the latest version runs on these systems.
| System | Latest version supported on | What to download |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | Windows 7 and later, 64-bit and 32-bit | 64-bit installer or portable; 32-bit installer or portable |
| macOS | macOS 10.13 and later | The Mac download or the Mac App Store app |
| Linux | 64-bit | The static build (.tar.xz), Flatpak or Snap |
On a Windows 10 or 11 PC, the main download button on the official site is the right one. How to install Telegram on Windows shows every step.
Is your Windows 64-bit or 32-bit?
Windows 11 exists only in 64-bit, so there is nothing to check. On Windows 10, open Settings › System › About and look at System type under Device specifications.
- 64-bit operating system: use the Windows x64 download on the official site.
- 32-bit operating system: use the 32-bit Windows download on the same page, installer or portable.
The last versions for older systems
The systems below cannot run the current version. The official repository keeps the last version that ran on each of them.
| System | Last supported version |
|---|---|
| macOS 10.12, older Linux (glibc below 2.28) | 4.9.9 |
| OS X 10.10 and 10.11, 32-bit Linux | 2.4.4 |
| Windows XP and Vista (installer or portable), OS X 10.6 to 10.9 | 1.8.15 |
Download these only through the links in the official repository, github.com/telegramdesktop/tdesktop, under Old system versions. Do not use "old version collections" on other sites. Whatever you download, check that the installer is genuine before you run it.
If you want the old version because the new one feels unfamiliar
If the reason is that the layout changed, try the settings before going back. Text size, interface scale and the theme can all be adjusted in the current version; Telegram first setup collects the ones worth setting once.
Whether the phone app runs on your phone is listed under requirements on its Google Play Store or App Store page.
Common mistakes with old versions
| What you see | Why | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The installer will not run on Windows 10 | A 64-bit file was downloaded for 32-bit Windows | Check System type and download the 32-bit file. |
| You found an old version on a blog | It is not an official file | Delete it and use the links in the official repository. |
| The current Mac app will not open on macOS 10.12 | The current version needs macOS 10.13 or later | Update macOS, or use version 4.9.9 from the official repository for now. |
FAQ
Can I use Telegram on Windows 7?
Yes. The official repository lists Windows 7 and later for the current version, although some screens ask for Windows 8.1 or later.
What about Windows XP?
The current version does not run there. The official repository keeps 1.8.15 as the last version for Windows XP and Vista; it is old, so use it only temporarily.
Where do I download an old version?
Only through the links in the official Telegram Desktop repository, github.com/telegramdesktop/tdesktop.
