Poll options with a moving symbol
Poll questions and options can include emoji, and Telegram Premium subscribers can add animated custom emoji as well. Only the person creating the poll needs a subscription; everyone who sees it sees the animation, subscribed or not.
Why a symbol next to an option makes a poll faster to read, and where it turns into noise, is covered in detail in adding custom emoji to polls; writing the options themselves is in writing good poll options. This page covers only what to think about when the emoji are custom and animated.
What changes with custom emoji in polls
| Rule | Why |
|---|---|
| Keep the words | An option that is only an emoji is ambiguous, and a screen reader reads it out by name only. Keep "Train" and "Plane" and put the symbol next to them |
| One animation is enough | Different animations on every option tire the eye before anyone picks. Put one in the question, or symbols only on the options |
| Channels: use your own pack | A channel's own emoji or mascot in the options shows at a glance whose poll it is |
| Groups: match the group pack | If the group has its own pack, free members can use it too; picking poll symbols from the same pack fits the conversation. See group emoji packs |
| Quizzes: add them evenly | A standout symbol on the correct answer only gives it away. Give every option one, or none; see making a quiz |

FAQ
Do people need Telegram Premium to see custom emoji in a poll?
No. Only the poll creator needs Premium; everyone sees the animated emoji.
Can I add custom emoji to quiz options?
Yes, the same way. Add them to every option so the symbols do not reveal the answer.
Should a poll option be only an emoji?
No. Keep the words; an emoji-only option is ambiguous and screen readers announce it by name.
