The short answer
- 1Profit screenshots in signal groups are easy to fake and mostly posted by the operation itself.
- 2The scam's real step is moving your deposit to their own trading app or site.
- 3Fees to unlock a withdrawal mean the money is already gone.

Profit screenshots are not evidence
Signal-group scams start with "free stock tips" or "free crypto signals". People gathered through ads, texts and social media are added to a Telegram group or channel, and the chat fills with profit screenshots and thank-you messages. Almost all of them come from the same operation. A screenshot of a trading app takes seconds to fake, and a winning streak is easy to show when the losing calls are deleted.
How the scheme moves you along
- Free picks. A few calls seem to come true; the ones that failed quietly disappear.
- Paid room or VIP. A membership fee for "bigger" returns.
- Their own trading app or site. You are told to deposit on a special platform, for "institutional allocations" or "pre-listing coins". The profit on that screen is only a number they control.
- Withdrawal blocked. To take money out, you must first pay a fee, a tax or a deposit. At this point the money is already gone.
Checks before you send anything
| Check | Why |
|---|---|
| Is the person or company licensed? | Look it up on your country's financial regulator register yourself; do not use a link they give you |
| Is the app or exchange a known one, from an official app store? | Apps and sites sent by link can be built just for the scam |
| "Guaranteed returns", "principal protected" | Those words are the warning on their own |
| Pressure to act now | Real opportunities do not disappear in an hour |
The same root shows up in other forms. If the approach starts as friendship or romance and turns to investing, see romance scams. If it starts with small paid tasks and then asks for deposits, see task scams.
If you already deposited
- Send nothing more, especially fees or taxes to "unlock" a withdrawal.
- Keep evidence: chats, usernames, group and site names, and every transaction record.
- Report the group and accounts in Telegram (⋮ › Report); see how to report.
- Contact your bank or exchange at once, and report to your local police and financial regulator. Beware of "recovery agents" who contact you afterwards offering to get the money back for a fee; that is a second scam.
FAQ
Are Telegram crypto signal groups legit?
Many are scams. Profit screenshots prove nothing, and groups that move you to their own trading platform are a strong warning sign.
Why can't I withdraw from the trading app a Telegram group gave me?
The balance is a number they control. Requests for fees or taxes to withdraw are part of the scam.
Can a recovery service get my money back?
Unsolicited recovery offers are usually a second scam. Go to your bank, exchange and police instead.
