How to Disable Sharing in Private Chats on Telegram
Prevent message forwarding, copying, media downloading, and screenshot capturing in confidential 1-on-1 conversations with Telegram Premium DRM protection.
While Telegram channels and groups have long benefited from content protection toggles, 1-on-1 personal conversations previously required initiating an end-to-end Secret Chat to prevent forwarding and screenshots. Now, Telegram Premium subscribers can apply Disable Sharing directly to any standard cloud 1-on-1 chat. When active, messages cannot be forwarded, text cannot be copied, media files cannot be saved to the gallery, and screen recording or screenshots are blocked on supported operating systems.

Content protection in 1-on-1 chats is enforced by the MTProto noforwards flag on messages.toggleNoForwards. When enabled, Telegram edge servers strip export metadata from outgoing message envelopes and client apps activate FLAG_SECURE on the Android window manager.

- Open any 1-on-1 chat and tap the user's name/avatar at the top.
- Tap the More (three dots •••) button.
- Select Disable Sharing from the action sheet.
- A padlock notification badge confirms content protection is now active for both participants.
android Android
- Tap the user's profile header inside the private conversation.
- Tap the three vertical dots (⋮) in the top-right corner.
- Select Disable Sharing.
- Screenshots are now blocked system-wide and message forwarding is locked.
desktop_windows Desktop & Web
- Right-click the conversation in your chat list.
- Select Manage Chat or click the user profile info drawer.
- Toggle ON Restrict Saving Content.
