Emoji that sort what you saved
Saved Messages is the chat with yourself where forwarded posts, files and notes pile up; what it is for is covered in what Saved Messages is for. With Telegram Premium, any message in it can be tagged by reacting with an emoji. A row of your tags then appears at the top of Saved Messages, and tapping one shows only the messages with that tag. A message can carry more than one tag.
- Tags in Saved Messages - the feature as Telegram describes it in Settings › Telegram Premium
Opened from Settings › Telegram Premium by tapping the feature. This is Telegram's preview page; the setting itself lives where the steps below say.
Each tag can also be given a name. That is the step that makes the system last: six months later a bare emoji is just a picture, while "To read" or "Receipts" still tells you what is behind it.
Tags against the other ways of finding things
| You remember | Best tool |
|---|---|
| What you have to do with it | A named tag such as "To read", "To reply" or "Keep". Tag by action, not by topic; see tagging saved messages |
| Where it came from | The by-chat view of Saved Messages; see sorting saved messages by chat |
| A word in it | Search inside Saved Messages. Add a one-line caption when you save a photo, because text inside images is not searchable |
| Roughly when | Scroll or jump by date |
Start with three tags and add a new one only after you have missed it twice. A tag row longer than the screen is no faster than scrolling.
Tagging and filtering saved messages
- Open Saved Messages and find the message.
