Most people never need to. Signing out is rarely the answer to the problem that prompts it, and on Telegram it has a specific cost: it destroys every Secret Chat on that device.
What you probably want instead
| If you want to | Do this instead |
|---|---|
| Use Telegram on another device | Nothing. Sign in with the same number; being on many devices at once is normal |
| Free up storage | Settings, Data and Storage, Storage Usage, Clear cache |
| Use a second phone number | Add it as another account and switch between them from the menu |
| Stop someone using a shared computer | Terminate that session remotely from Settings, Devices |
How to sign out when you do mean it
- Open Settings, then Devices.
- To leave the current device, use the log out option there.
- To end a session elsewhere, select it in the list and terminate it. You do not need access to that device.
On a shared or public computer
Sign out when you finish, or terminate the session afterwards from your phone. Remote termination is the more reliable habit, because it still works when you have already walked away.
Save anything you need from a Secret Chat before signing out. Secret Chats are tied to the login session, not merely to the handset, and nothing brings them back.
