Add people from your contacts, search for them by username, or send an invite link. For anything beyond a handful of people, the invite link is the practical answer.
Creating an invite link
- Open Group Info.
- Choose Add Member.
- Choose Invite to Group via Link.
- Copy the link and share it anywhere: a message, an email, a website, a printed code.
Anyone with Telegram installed joins by opening the link. Revoke it and it stops working immediately, including for people who saved it earlier.
Why a link beats adding people directly
- It respects their choice. They join rather than finding themselves in a group they never agreed to.
- It works without phone numbers. You can grow a group from an audience you have no contact details for.
- It scales. One link reaches as many people as you can share it with.
- It is revocable. If a link leaks somewhere you did not intend, replace it.
Managing links properly
You can create more than one link, and give each a name, an expiry date or a limit on how many people may use it. Separate links for separate places tell you where your members actually came from. Links can also require admin approval before someone joins, which is the most effective single control against a link being circulated to an audience you did not intend.
