The top of your profile — the band behind your picture and your name — can carry a colour of its own, with a repeating emoji worked into it.

This is a different setting from the colour your name takes in chats, and it is read at a different moment: when somebody has opened you deliberately and is deciding something.

What you will be able to do

  • check_circle Set the colour behind your profile header.
  • check_circle Add a pattern without hurting legibility.
  • check_circle Tell this apart from the in-chat name colour.
  • check_circle Decide whether your profile benefits at all.

The header colour and its pattern are chosen separately from the name colour used in conversations.

badge Two colours, two audiences

The name colour works in passing. It appears in group conversations where nobody is looking at you specifically, and its job is to make your messages easy to pick out.

The profile colour works on arrival. Somebody has tapped your name because they are deciding whether to write to you, whether you are the person they were told about, or whether your channel is worth following. They are on your page for a few seconds and the header is the first thing in front of them.

Because of that, the useful question is not what looks good but what the page is for. A profile used for work benefits from looking deliberate. A private account that nobody opens without already knowing you gains nothing from a banner.

visibility
The bio has to stay readable A busy pattern behind your name and description costs you the one sentence explaining who you are. If you have to look twice to read your own bio, the decoration has won and you have lost.

Whose profile this actually improves

Two of the four are genuinely better for it. The other two are welcome to it for a different reason.

work It earns its place

check_circle When strangers open you. If people arrive at your profile from a group, a channel or a card, the header is doing work whether or not you set it — so set it.
check_circle Match it to whatever else you use: a channel, a shop, a logo. Recognition across two places is worth more than either one alone, and two palettes read as two projects.
check_circle On a channel page. Worth setting the day it becomes available, because a channel page is opened by everybody deciding whether to subscribe — and it arrives through boosts, so it reads as something readers unlocked rather than something bought.
check_circle The bio still does all the explaining. Colour makes a page look attended to; it never makes it informative.

person It changes nothing

cancel An account only friends and family open. There is no first impression to manage — they already know who you are, and they arrive at your messages rather than at your page.
cancel Set it because you like it, then. That is a perfectly good reason and a different one from everything else on this page; just do not expect it to accomplish anything.
cancel A detailed or multi-coloured pattern emoji. Shrunk and faded into a background it becomes visual noise, and it takes the legibility of your bio down with it.
cancel One simple shape related to what you do survives that treatment. Check the result in light and dark — a texture in one theme can be a distraction in the other.

The header is read by people deciding about you. Legible and consistent beats striking.

switch_account
Two accounts, two obviously different headers If you keep a separate working identity, the most practical use of this feature has nothing to do with how the page looks to anybody else: giving the two profiles headers you cannot confuse tells you at a glance which one you are currently acting as.

settings Setting it

  1. Open the profile colour setting Separate from the name colour.
  2. Ask who opens your profile If it is only people who know you, skip it.
  3. Match whatever else you run A channel, a shop, a brand.
  4. Add one simple pattern Or none at all.
  5. Read your own bio afterwards If it is harder to read, change it back.
  6. Set a channel's header once it unlocks That page decides subscriptions.

This page decorates the header. The curriculum step is the substance underneath: what your profile shows to strangers, which parts you can hide, and how much of an identity a public page should carry.
