A slider in the chat settings decides how rounded your message bubbles are, from square corners to almost pill-shaped. It is the smallest visual setting in Telegram and the one people fiddle with longest.
It is mostly taste. There are two places where it stops being taste, and they are worth knowing before you push it to either end.
What you will be able to do

The preview updates as you drag, and the difference between neighbouring values is smaller than it looks in motion.
crop_square What moves when the corners do
The obvious change is the shape. The less obvious ones are what make this worth two minutes rather than twenty.
Rounding costs horizontal room. A rounded bubble needs a little more padding to stop text touching the curve, so at the high end short messages take up noticeably more width than their content needs. On a small screen and in a busy group, that adds up to fewer messages visible at once.
Square corners make the bubbles read as a single block of colour rather than as separate objects. That is denser and cleaner, and it also makes consecutive messages from the same person harder to tell apart at a glance — which matters more in a group than in a one-to-one chat.

Choose by use: lower for reading a lot, higher for talking to people.

- Desktop Settings, Chat Settings. Independent of your phone, which is usually what you want.
- Judge it in a real chat Open a busy group, not the preview. The preview shows two tidy messages and hides the effect that matters.
