The wand icon in Telegram's media editor makes one judgement about your photo and applies it: lift the dark parts, hold back the bright ones, warm the colour a little. One tap, no dialogue.
On a flat or underexposed picture it is better than most people would manage by hand in a minute. On a picture that was already the way you wanted it, it is an argument you did not ask for. Knowing which one you have is the whole skill.

Watch the shadows rather than the whole frame — that is where the change is largest and where it goes wrong first.

Enhance is not a filter. A filter applies the same shift to every photo you point it at; enhance reads this photo first and decides from what it finds. A picture with a blocked-up dark corner and an empty highlight gets a large correction; a well-exposed one gets a small one.
The work happens on the device, before the file is compressed and sent. That ordering matters: the adjustment is made on the full-quality image rather than on the smaller copy that travels, so there is no double loss of detail.

- Attach the media Tap the paperclip in any chat and choose the photo or video.
- Open the editor Tap the thumbnail to expand it full screen. The toolbar along the bottom is the editor.
- Tap the wand The enhance icon applies the correction immediately, with no confirmation step.
- Compare before you accept it Press and hold the image to see the original, then release. This is the only honest way to judge whether it improved.
- Adjust if you want to The sliders are still there and now start from the enhanced values.

This is the part most people never try. The wand appears in the editor for video as well, and the correction is applied to the frames as they are encoded, so a clip shot in a dim room arrives watchable rather than muddy.
Two things to know before relying on it. A long clip takes visibly longer to process, because the work is done on every frame rather than on one image. And the decision is made once for the whole clip, so footage that moves from a dark room into daylight will suit one half of itself better than the other.
