You sent the screenshot with the wrong corner of the screen in it. On most messengers that costs you a deletion, an apology and a second message that nobody scrolls back to find.
On Telegram the message is still an object you own. You can re-crop it, draw on it, rewrite the caption, or swap the file for a different one entirely — in place, keeping its position in the conversation and any replies attached to it.

The whole editor opens on a message that is already in the chat — crop, drawing, adjustments, all of it.
published_with_changes Why this is possible at all
A Telegram message is stored on the servers and drawn by each client from there. Nothing was handed over on delivery; what everyone sees is a view of the same record. Changing the record changes what everyone sees, on every device, without anything being re-sent.
That is why the edit keeps its place in the chat, keeps its timestamp, and keeps the replies people already attached to it. The conversation around the message is undisturbed because the message never left.
There is a limit: you can edit your own message for 48 hours after sending it. After that the Edit option is gone and deleting is the only route. Channel posts are the exception — admins can edit those indefinitely, which is why a channel post can be corrected a year later.
Edit it, replace it, or delete it
Four mistakes. Three of them are edits and the fourth is the one people try to fix with an edit and should not.

The line between them: edit to correct, delete to retract. Editing a mistake you want undone just documents it.

- Open the message menu iOS: press and hold the bubble. Desktop and macOS: right-click it. Android: long-press, or see the note below.
- Choose Edit The message moves into the input area with a preview of the media above the keyboard.
- Tap the preview to open the editor Crop, adjustments, drawing — the same tools you had before sending.
- Or replace the file The replace control on the same screen opens your gallery. Pick the new file and it takes the message's place.
- Rewrite the caption and confirm The checkmark commits it. Everyone's copy updates, including people who are offline right now.
visibility Editing is not unsending
It is worth being precise about what an edit does and does not reach. It changes the message everywhere it is stored, which covers anyone who opens the chat afterwards — and that is most people, most of the time.
It does not reach the push notification that already went out with the old caption, the person who was reading over the message when you changed it, or a file someone has already saved. If the problem is a typo, none of that matters. If the problem is that the photo showed an address or a password, the edit is the wrong tool: delete the message, then treat what it contained as disclosed.
