The short answer
- 1Telegram never tells you that someone blocked you.
- 2Signs: 'last seen a long time ago', one tick only, calls that fail, no profile photo.
- 3Each sign has an innocent cause too; only several together suggest a block.

Telegram never tells you
There is no notice when someone blocks you, and no screen that lists who has. Telegram does this on purpose: blocking is meant to be quiet, so that it does not start an argument. What you can see are side effects, and every one of them has an innocent explanation too.
The signs, and what else causes them
| What you notice | If they blocked you | It can also mean |
|---|---|---|
| Their status shows "last seen a long time ago" | You no longer see when they are online | They hid their last seen from you, or really have not used Telegram for a long time |
| Your messages stay at one tick, never two | They are not delivered to them | Their phone is off or offline, or they have not opened the app |
| Calls do not go through | You cannot call them | They limited who can call them in their privacy settings |
| You no longer see their profile photo or its changes | Their photo is hidden from you | They limited who can see their profile photo |
| You can't add them to a group | Adding is blocked | Their group invite setting; see can't add this member |
Telegram's own description of blocking matches these signs: blocked users "can't send you messages or add you to groups. They will not see your profile photos, stories, online and last seen status."
A single sign proves nothing. When several appear together and all at once, especially one tick on every message plus "last seen a long time ago" plus failed calls, a block is the most likely explanation. Even then, it is a guess.
A red exclamation mark is not a block
Messages to someone who blocked you do not fail with a red mark. They look sent, with one tick. A red mark means the message never left your phone, usually because of the connection. See a red exclamation mark.
Check the simple explanations first
- Are they still on Telegram? A deleted account shows as "Deleted Account". See a contact showing as Deleted Account.
- Did they change their number? If they moved their account to a new number, an old contact card on your phone may point to nothing.
- Is it your account? If messages to several people fail, check whether your own account has a spam limit; see mutual contacts only.
To check whether you blocked someone, and to undo it, see the Blocked Users list.
FAQ
How do I know if someone blocked me on Telegram?
You cannot know for sure. Several signs together, such as one tick on every message, 'last seen a long time ago' and failed calls, make a block likely.
Do messages show one tick if you are blocked on Telegram?
Yes, they usually stay at one tick. But an offline phone also leaves messages at one tick.
Does Telegram notify you when you are blocked?
No. There is no notice and no list of people who blocked you.
