Stars earned by a channel or bot can be withdrawn
When a channel collects Star reactions, paid posts or subscriptions, or a bot sells digital goods, those Stars build up as revenue for that channel or bot. That revenue is separate from the Stars you buy to spend yourself (see how Telegram Stars work). Revenue can be withdrawn outside Telegram, through Fragment, as Gram (the coin formerly called Toncoin). Telegram's announcement first described it as withdrawing "in Toncoins via Fragment"; the developer documentation now says "withdraw Stars as Gram".
The rules from the official documentation
| Rule | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Only the owner can withdraw | Admins of the channel or developers added to the bot cannot. The account that owns the channel or bot has to do it |
| Two-Step Verification password required | The withdrawal asks for the owner's 2FA password. Without 2FA turned on, there is no way to confirm it |
| A minimum balance applies | Withdrawal is only possible once the available balance reaches a minimum set by Telegram. The value can change, so check the revenue screen rather than a number in a guide |
| The money goes to a TON wallet | Fragment asks for "the address of the TON wallet where the funds will be sent" |
The revenue screen shows three figures: the current balance, the part that can be withdrawn now, and the total earned so far. Stars that have been earned are not always withdrawable straight away, which is why the first two can differ.
Before you press withdraw
- Turn on Two-Step Verification on the owner account, if it is not already on. An account that receives money is the one most worth protecting; see a security baseline in fifteen minutes.
- Prepare a TON wallet you control. It can be your own self-custody wallet or a deposit address at an exchange you use. If you use an exchange, confirm it accepts Gram on the TON network before you send anything.
- Copy the address; never type it. Paste it and compare the first and last characters. A transfer on the blockchain cannot be reversed if the address is wrong.
The withdrawal itself
- Open the channel or bot's revenue statistics as the owner.
- Choose to withdraw. Telegram asks for your 2FA password.
- Telegram opens a one-time Fragment page for that withdrawal.
- On Fragment, enter the TON wallet address and confirm.
Fragment is the official route Telegram links to. Bookmark fragment.com and check the address bar before entering anything; a page that only looks like Fragment and asks for a wallet's recovery phrase is a phishing site.
Spending revenue instead of withdrawing it
The documentation offers a second use for the balance: buying Telegram Ads for the channel or bot, paid from the Stars currently available, at "a special rate with a 30% discount". If you were going to promote the channel anyway, this avoids the round trip through a wallet and an exchange.
FAQ
Can an admin withdraw a channel's Stars?
No. Only the owner of the channel or bot can start a withdrawal, and it requires the owner's Two-Step Verification password.
What currency do I receive?
Gram, the coin formerly called Toncoin, sent to a TON wallet address you enter on Fragment.
Is there a minimum amount?
Yes. The balance must reach a minimum set by Telegram, which can change; the revenue screen shows when withdrawal is possible.
