Cancel where you bought it
Telegram Premium is a subscription, and it is cancelled through the same provider that takes the payment. Telegram's own FAQ says: "You can cancel your premium subscription via the same provider you used to purchase it." There is no cancel switch inside the Telegram settings, because the app is not the one charging you.
| Where you subscribed | Where to cancel |
|---|---|
| @PremiumBot (in a Telegram chat) | Open the chat with @PremiumBot and send the command /stop |
| Google Play (Android) | Play Store › your profile picture (top right) › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions › Telegram › Cancel subscription |
| App Store (iPhone, iPad) | iOS Settings › your name (Apple Account) › Subscriptions › Telegram › Cancel Subscription |
The store menus above belong to Google and Apple, not Telegram, and their wording can change with system updates. If a label looks slightly different, look for "Subscriptions" in the store account settings.
If you do not remember how you paid
Telegram sells Premium in three places: the App Store, Google Play (from Telegram Settings › Telegram Premium on Android) and @PremiumBot. Check them in this order:
- Your store subscriptions. Open the Subscriptions list in Google Play or in your Apple Account. If Telegram is listed there, cancel it there.
- Your store receipts. Search your email for a Google Play or Apple receipt that mentions Telegram Premium.
- @PremiumBot. If neither store shows it, open the chat with @PremiumBot. A bot subscription is charged to the card you entered in that chat, and
/stopends it.
The store is tied to the account that paid, not to the phone you are holding now. If you subscribed on an old iPhone and now use Android, the subscription still lives in your Apple Account and has to be cancelled there.
What happens after you cancel
Cancelling stops the next payment; it does not switch Premium off on the spot. In the FAQ's words, "You will still have access to all your Premium features until the end of the current billing period." Cancelling a day after renewal therefore still gives you the rest of that month or year.
When the period ends, the account returns to the free limits:
- The Premium badge next to your name disappears.
- Doubled limits go back to the free values. Nothing you already have is deleted, but you cannot add more until you are under the free limit again; for folders, the first ten stay usable.
- Premium-only features such as faster downloads, custom emoji and Premium stickers stop working.
If you rely on more pinned chats, folders or public links than the free plan allows, tidy them before the period ends so you choose what stays. See what the doubled limits are for the full list.
Refunds and the pressure to pay again
The Premium FAQ does not offer a general refund policy, and it says an unused part of a @PremiumBot billing period is not refunded if you delete your account. For a purchase made through Google Play or the App Store, the refund process is the store's own: request it from your Google Play order history or from Apple's report-a-problem page, under their rules.
If you plan to come back
Prices are not the same everywhere. A @PremiumBot subscription is priced first by the country code of your phone number, and store subscriptions by the country of your Google or Apple account. Yearly plans are offered at a discount, and subscribing through @PremiumBot is usually cheaper because it avoids store fees. If you cancel because of cost, compare those options before subscribing again. For what Premium includes, see what the subscription includes.
FAQ
Can I cancel Telegram Premium inside the app?
No. Cancel through the provider you paid: send /stop to @PremiumBot, or use the Subscriptions list in Google Play or your Apple Account.
Do I lose Premium as soon as I cancel?
No. You keep all Premium features until the end of the current billing period; cancelling only stops the next payment.
Can I get a refund for Telegram Premium?
The Premium FAQ has no general refund policy. For store purchases, use Google Play's or Apple's own refund process.
